Why We Built This Site
Charlotte publishes phone information across city, county, school, court, utility, and campus systems. CharMeck 311 handles many city and county service calls, while direct numbers still appear on department pages for offices such as Charlotte Fire, CATS, Charlotte Water, Mecklenburg Public Health, and the Register of Deeds. CMS and UNC Charlotte maintain their own directories, the library lists branch phones, and North Carolina agencies keep state hotlines outside local control. Add NANPA and FCC references for the 704/980 numbering system, and the picture gets crowded fast. We pull together the lookup tools, contact methods, and reference data for each of these in one place.
What You Will Find Here
- Pages by phone topic: phone area codes, phone numbers, and phone codes
- Local directory contacts: city staff, county government, K-12 school district, university, public library, major utilities, public safety
- Directory walkthroughs: how to use CharMeck 311, how to navigate the CMS and UNC Charlotte directories, and how to reverse-lookup an unknown caller
- Phone numbering reference: the 704 and 980 area codes serving Charlotte, local exchange (NXX) prefixes, N11 service codes (211 / 311 / 911 / 988), vertical service codes, and toll-free prefixes
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site. We have no connection to the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, any North Carolina state agency, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, UNC Charlotte, a utility, a telecommunications carrier, or a directory operator. There are real limits to what we can help with:
- We cannot place calls on your behalf or connect you to a department
- We cannot change anyone's directory listing, add a number, or remove a listing
- We cannot verify the identity of someone who called you
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific scam call applies to your situation
- We cannot guarantee that every phone number, area code, or directory link on this site is current right now
Only the originating office can confirm a current phone number or change a listing. For emergencies, dial 911. For a mental-health or suicidal crisis, dial 988.
